Three Grayson Jail Fugitives Sentenced to Sixty Years
Longview authorities report three Grayson County jail fugitives captured near Longview after two gun battles with officers were sentenced to 60 years each by Judge C. E. McGaw. Jack Geesling Arthur Whitten and Kidd Willis pled guilty to robbery and theft charges involving an automobile theft and a $15 shop theft. They received 50 years for robbery and 10 for auto theft. Willie Umphress remained at large after escaping earlier. Indictments followed swiftly, and they were returned to Sherman for further processing.

J A Stewart veteran crop reporter from Atlanta predicted on Monday at the Dallas Cotton Exchange that Texas will produce 3 250 000 bales of cotton this year and the nation 11 000 000 bales. War on defective cars declared in Sherman drive
A state and county highway enforcement drive began Sunday night to remove dangerous vehicles from highways. Officers arrested a speeding driver and a trucker with no side lights, fining them $18.50. In Sherman a caravan of five trucks was halted. four were overloaded by 3,000 to 4,000 pounds and fined $18.50 each. Police urged moving disabled cars to the road shoulder for safety.

SHERMAN All protests on school transfer applications must be made within five days after Aug. 1 according to a ruling of the state attorney general cited to County Supt. E. A. Miller. District trustees who object to the transfer of any pupil may file protest with the county school board by Saturday. The county board will meet Friday morning to hear protests. The law requires the county board to act on protests by Aug. 15. A large number of transfer applications were received in the attorney general's office Friday and Saturday.
