Culberson No Comment on Texas Senate Seat Challenge
Washington dispatch reports United States Senator Charles A. Culberson will not comment on Judge John W. Gaines of San Antonio urging the State Executive Committee to bar Mayfield and Ferguson from the second Democratic primary over alleged ineligibility. The piece discusses Senate precedents from Smoot and Newberry, the right of each house to judge its members, and projected protests over Mayfield’s oath and Ferguson’s past impeachment in Texas. The Washington Star editorial praises Culberson’s stance against the Ku Klux Klan and notes Texas loses more than Culberson if he is ousted, while urging suppression of such organizations.
