C L Manning a leading Whitewright business figure dies suddenly of heart trouble at home. Born near Leonard in 1882 he moved to Whitewright in 1917 to run Manning and Clark hardware. Survived by wife Mae and three children, father Y T Manning of Leonard, and several siblings. Funeral held at Presbyterian church with interment in Leonard.

Rangers Guard Striking Workers Arrive in Denison Texas
In Denison Texas on July 25 a special train from the north brought 140 strikebreakers from St. Louis and other eastern cities. Thirty five Rangers guarded the Katy roundhouse and depot with Captain Frank Hamer and Captain Tom Hickman directing. No disorder occurred though guards escorted some strikers and sympathizers from the depot platform as the three coaches were moved into the yards.

Sherman July 25 An Associated Press dispatch reports Governor Neff will send Rangers to Sherman startling locals. During a shop crafts strike 400 men walked out and three beatings were reported. Sheriff Boyd Craig kept order and violence ceased. Mayor Wilson insisted Rangers are not needed or wanted in Sherman. Frisco Master Mechanic Graham said strike breakers were not used and no notification was received.
