Western Week Kicks Off At Whitewright Schools

Western Week runs April 24 to 28 featuring coronations for kings and queens from each class. Parade Thursday at 3 30 p m starts at the Baptist Church and ends at the Riding Club Arena with a 5 30 to 7 p m barbecue. Widespread Rains Benefit Texas Game and Fish

The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department reports widespread rains across most of Texas, aiding game and fish resources. Executive Director J. R. Singleton notes moisture ranged from light showers to seven inches, improving access areas during spawning and easing food pinch on overpopulated deer ranges. Bird habitats for quail and wild turkey also benefit.

New Industry Plans Highlight C of C Banquet

At the Whitewright Chamber of Commerce annual banquet in the high school gym, Herman Philley was named president succeeding Clint Hennig. New officers include Don Williams vice president Calvin Whiteley secretary treasurer Philip Earnheart Larry Presley and Clint Hennig as directors. A guest speaker Dr Earle Williams spoke on enthusiasm honesty and friendship. Plans include a small manufacturing plant by Pro X Pharmaceutical Co in Dallas to be operating by autumn and a community center, mercury vapor lighting, and downtown improvements.

Friday Literary Club Meeting Highlights National Library Week

The Friday Literary Club met April 14 at the Public Library with Mrs. Roy Blanton as hostess and Mrs. Jack Meador presiding. Honors from Trinity District Texas Federation of Women's Clubs included first place in library service for establishing the Public Library here and second place in yearbooks. Entrance Fees Set for Lakes Texoma Lavon Recreation

Brig. Gen. William T. Bradley announced entrance fees for 12 Lake Texoma sites and five Lake Lavon sites starting May 15. Texoma locations include Grandpappy Point Juniper Point Cedar Bayou Cedar Mills and Oklahoma sites Burns Run Willow Springs Bridgeview Little Grasses Soldier Creek Johnson Creek Alberta Creek Roads End. Lavon sites are Avalon Lavonia East Fork Little Ridge and Clear Lake. Short term permits cost 3 for six months for one project or 1 for one day for one project. 50 cents for individuals for one day. Deaths mark two services in Whitewright for Gillett and Brown

Funeral services were held for Grady L. Gillett 76 in Earnheart chapel with burial at Oak Hill Cemetery. He died Sunday after a long illness. survived by wife Pearl, son Thomas, sister Cordin Caldwell, three grandchildren and four great grandchildren. Pallbearers listed. In a separate service, Jimmy Wayne Brown 26 of Orangeville was buried at Oak Hill Cemetery after dying Thursday in a Dallas hospital. He was married to Carolyn Sullins and survived by a son, a daughter, parents Ralph and Mrs. Brown, two sisters and two grandmothers.

Mrs. Tom Snow died last Thursday at Whitewright Nursing Home aged 84. Funeral services were held Friday at Earnheart funeral chapel with burial in Blossom Cemetery. Born July 7, 1882 in Stephenville she married Dec 29, 1896. husband died in 1947. Survived by two sons J. C. Contract To Advertise For Housing Units

Willis Duff of Bonham, manager of Whitewright Housing Authority, announced in Whitewright that land acquisition for 16 elderly housing units in Whitewright is complete after condemnation steps. Bids should be advertised next week, with a 30 day bid period before a contract is awarded. Construction could start within two months, with ten units planned at Howe as well, likely to be awarded to the same contractor.
