Joe Bodine reports a $330 turnout at the American Legion Home barbecue with plans for another in about a year. The post office disruption ends to normal service with limited hours and fewer deliveries, while rural routes face delays.
Whitewright Volunteer Fire Department voted to sponsor Little League baseball for boys aged 6 to 12. Local towns are invited to join. interested youths should contact any firefighter or Little League committee member Walter Bunch, Clarence Tillett, Carl Edwards, or Wayne McLauchlin. President Eisenhower's adviser Gabriel Hauge said congressional budget slashes are not enough to justify a tax cut this year. He urged continued spending cuts and a possible across the board tax relief in the final years of the administration, but warned a surplus in sight is necessary. He cited already approved cuts and suggested further savings may come from the soil bank and housing outlays, with possible foreign aid reduction ahead.

Doggett 73 a former Denton school superintendent died in Denton after a heart attack. Formation of the Texas Atomic Energy Research Foundation by Community Public Service Company and ten other Texas utilities was announced April 11 by R L Bowen. The non profit group will pursue fundamental nuclear research for electric power, not an immediate plant, and may work with the Atomic Energy Commission while avoiding government funding. The eleven utilities will jointly support long range work in nuclear research and the program aims to benefit Texas as energy sources evolve. Bowen serves on the Foundation board with W A Parish of Houston Lighting & Power Company. other members and supporting companies include Central Power and Light, Dallas Power & Light, El Paso Electric, Gulf States Utilities, Southwestern Gas and Electric, Southwestern Public Service, Texas Electric Service, Texas Power & Light, and West Texas Utilities.
The Missionary Society met at the Manse with Mrs. C. C. Dooley presiding. Notes include prayers, yearbook presentation, program leadership, and infant dedication opportunities. An Easter egg hunt is planned for Mr. and Mrs. J. T. Holloway’s home if weather permits.

The 47 year old lumber firm L. LaRoe & Company retires from business and sells its assets. James H. Gosnell buys the Main street yard and Spruce street warehouse and plans seed feed expansion. Rham Pennington acquires merchandise. Whitewright Lumber Co. operates the sales outlet. The Leonard yard remains with L. M. LaRoe.
North Texas cotton leaders pressed changes in Rep Poage’s bill to aid the old cotton belt. Tom Hymer urged adjusting base history from 5 to 3 years, ending ASC trend use, counting planted acreage, restricting allotment transfers, and requiring half of new acres from new farms.
