The Postal Department designated the week ending May 5 1951 as Rural Mail Box Improvement Week. Box owners should ensure boxes are serviceable properly erected and painted with names visible to carriers. Postmaster John Biggerstaff and four rural carriers from Whitewright request cooperation of rural route patrons.
The Flying Club led by Rev. A. D. Jameson as president and L. D. Selman as treasurer purchased a Mooney M-18 single seater. Flight instructor Find ley Haile announced it features retractable gear and short-field flaps, cruises at 110 mph, and 35 mpg. Jameson flew it from the Rio Grande Valley last Thursday and it is now at Haile Field.
Grayson County Commissioners Court authorized a full time deputy for the Denison tax office effective April 15 at 135 dollars monthly replacing the current half time position. The court also accepted a Railway Co easement on Farm to Market Road 1281 in Howe and approved up to 400 dollars for power line relocation on FM 902.
The Colored School expresses gratitude to citizens and friends who donated to keep the lunchroom operating. Notables include Rev. L H Smith of the Whitewright Presbyterian Church gifting five dollars for a student, and Mr. Thomas Sears supplying candy for all pupils.
Rev. Lloyd A. Johnson 49 collapsed from a heart attack while dictating a protest telegram to President Truman in Houston. He expressed anger over General MacArthur's removal, telling a Western Union operator before he fell dead.
Mr and Mrs Jack Nossaman receive notice that their daughter Jackie Nossaman has been elected to Beta Gamma Sigma the national honorary society for business schools. The Woman's Missionary Union at Bethel church met Wednesday for business. Mrs. Ben Bow opened with prayer and Mrs. Jewel Jarvis spoke on Buried Living. Mrs. Vandagriff resigned. Mrs. Carrie Cowart elected benevolence chair and Mrs. O G Alexander named reporter. Fourteen members attended. Seventeen women attended the Pilot Grove workers conference Monday.
The B Sharp Club met Saturday at the home of Mrs. Guy Hamilton. Mrs Hamilton played Waltz in A Flat. Lovely refreshments were served by the hostess.

Mrs Geo M Hight has purchased The Flower Shop from Miss Sally Cherry of Bells The Flower Shop and now runs the business with Mrs Allen T Short as designer and Mrs Charles Skaggs as assistant designer. The shop began January 1950 and changed hands several times.
The Senate passed a housing aid bill directing over 1.5 billion dollars to defense area construction. It increases insured mortgage backing by 1.5 billion and allocates 50 million for direct housing, 60 million for sewers and schools, 15 million for prefab builders, and 10 million for land purchases.
