Alansman Unmasked in Denison Church

About fifty Knights of the Ku Klux Klan members in Denison Texas visiting two churches caused crowd reaction. A masked man’s face was revealed at First Baptist and Dr W L Smith was involved. They then spoke at First Presbyterian before the group dispersed amid jeers from townspeople.

Teachers Discuss Appeal To Governor Neff For School Funds

Grayson County teachers met in Sherman to plan how to appeal to Governor Neff for a special appropriation to raise public school funds. They warned the 1923 per pupil amount would be only $10 under current funds, down from $14.10 in 1921, risking a $5,000,000 shortfall if no bill passes.

Young Men Organize Prayer Meeting After Revival

After a revival ended last Sunday, twenty five young men attended the first young men prayer meeting at the American Legion hall Tuesday evening. Officers elected include Fitz Bryant president and W. M. Morzan vice president with Roscoe Pace secretary treasurer. The next prayer meeting will be at the Presbyterian Church Tuesday evening. A collection was approved to aid charitable causes and a nice offering was received Tuesday night.

Greenville, April 3. G. A. Mason used a forged Bergin letter and checks to swindle Beall Hardware, J. W. Sinclair Furniture, and G. A. Pfaeffle Jewelers. He posed as a relative and auditor, bought a Hamilton watch and dining sets, and left with $110.50 cash plus the watch. Officials warn nearby towns and pursue leads. no arrests yet.

Wife of Waco Pastor Dies After Operations

Waco Texas April 3 Mrs Elizabeth McMillan 32 wife of Rev E W McMillan pastor of the Church of Christ died tonight after heroic measures to save her life. In two and a half months three major operations and four blood transfusions were used two hip amputations were performed and a goiter operation done January 17. Her brother in law A L McMillan of Ballinger and her husband supplied blood. She was born in Howe Texas near Sherman and leaves her husband a daughter her mother five brothers and three sisters Jesse Baxter of Dallas among the brothers.

Henry Watterson Laid To Rest In Louisville Funeral

Henry Watterson, veteran editor and dean of American journalists, died in Jacksonville on December 22. His funeral in Louisville featured a large turnout of active and honorary pallbearers, a ceremony at First Christian Church, and a granite grave marker at Cavehill Cemetery with his name and his widow listed.

Sherman April 3 The extortion and illegal fee collection charges against County Attorney Hubert Bookout were dismissed by Judge Silas Hare after no prosecutor appeared. Previously, a grand jury in January returned two indictments. an ouster trial began February 20 and ended March 2 with a not guilty verdict.

Post Office to Close General Delivery on Sundays

Chicago reports F Guy Davis of the American Newspaper Publishers' Association says national ad campaigns are expanding. Businesses new to newspaper space are doubling and tripling space this year as a necessity of the current economy. A firm that began national ads in 1920 now runs in 40 papers and earned a 7 percent dividend. this year it plans to reach 200 newspapers.

Lawyer Drops Dead Pleading His Case

Amarillo Texas April 3 Judge W H Kimbrough aged 60 died in Dalhart at 6 40 this evening while pleading a case in court He was a prominent Panhandle lawyer who came to Amarillo in 1909 He served as Houston schools superintendent eighteen years ago and helped author Sutton and Kimbrough Arithmetic with five years as secretary to the State Superintendent of Public Instruction before moving to Houston He left a wife and five children.

Revival closes after three weeks in Whitewright

One of Whitewright's most successful revival meetings ended Sunday night after three weeks under the hub of the Hub DeLaye evangelistic party. The event, led with Rev. Max Strang and J. Q. Adams, drew conversion and re-consecration of over two people, raised total offerings of 1235.00, and saw more than fifty new church members join across the city.

Senate Cuts Out Free Seeds Item

Washington April 3 The agricultural appropriation bill carrying 35808000 but without 360000 for free seeds was reported to the Senate. The measure, as turned over, is 116300 larger than when it passed the House, with 298000 for TB disease in animals and 52000 for cereals. 47000 for the Bureau of Agricultural Economics statements. and 75000 to prevent spread of the European corn borer.

Five Inches of Rain Fell Here in 24 Hours

The heaviest rainfall in years drenched the area Monday into Tuesday with over five inches. An onlooker noted seven inches in a tub, while floods overflowed low lands but caused little overall damage. The Sun did not record a precise total.
