Early History of Whitewright recalls its rough start to city status
The Grayson College Journal traces Whitewright’s growth from a wilderness to a bustling town after the 1878 Missouri Pacific line arrived. It notes early merchants Batsell and Reeves, the first postmasters, churches, schools, fires, a shift away from whisky, and Grayson College’s 1886 founding with a growing civic and commercial base led by many local leaders.
