Cotton carryover threatens smallest supply in twenty years
AUSTIN reports cotton expert Dr. A B Cox of the University of Texas warns the U S cotton supply may be the smallest in 20 years by August. He notes 1946 and 1948 were the only years in the past 15 with lower mid year stocks, while consumption and exports this year run about 600000 bales ahead of 1951. He cites a $10 per bale drop from last year due to a downturn in cotton goods manufacturing. The piece also oddly mentions fish gills and California’s length of 770 miles.
