Grayson County voters head to the polls next Saturday to decide legalization of beer for the fifth time in about 15 years. Past results show Denison largely wet, Sherman mixed then dry, with county turnout high as 17 110 poll taxes plus about 3 000 exemptions noted.
Washington reports Perrin Air Base will recruit more than 1,500 military and civilian staff after the Air Force announced the field would reopen April 1. About 400 civilians join regular personnel plus communications and weather detachments and a band. Training begins as facilities ready.
The Texas Pension Association plans a regional convention in Waco on April 17 to outline a campaign for boosting old age payments to 50 dollars. Edgar P. Haney of Dallas will speak as president and Everett H. O Dowd will preside. Local leader W. Frank Cobb announced a preconvention series of daily 15 minute radio broadcasts.
Election to choose mayor for two year term will be held April 5 1948 at Whitewright City Hall election room. Polls open 8 a m to 7 p m with R C Vestal presiding judge C M Dillon clerked by Mrs O L Jones and Mrs L E Alexander. Mayor F M Echols issues notice city secretary Harold Doss attests.
On April 12 Cobb declared that rising living costs and Texas failure to match federal funds for the elderly would push him to mobilize and bring the issue to Texans, highlighting a demand for the $50 aid.
