Sculptor Sigvald Ashjornson has secured the contract to erect a county soldiers monument as a gift from George Middleton. The $10,000 project in Madison will feature four service branches with seven foot figures and a 27 foot overall height including a 12 foot granite base.
A tall Rhode Island granite monument nearly 40 feet high has been erected on the Oak Hill cemetery family lot to honor Gen. Lew Wallace. The obelisk features a draped top with an American flag, the Eighth Army Corps badge, and lines from Ben Hur. It lists Lewis Wallace 1827 1905 with widow Susan E Wallace 1830. Nearby a deaf mute, Charles E Ferree, was killed by a Vanialdia freight train seven miles north of Frankfort, after walking onto the track. His two daughters, father Henry Ferree of Silver Lake, and other family are noted.
National Light Power and Heating Co properties in Indiana are being formally taken over this week. W H Schott, leader of the consolidation and head of the $5,000,600 company, is in Bloomington. Columbus Shelbyville plants will join soon. Elwood Alexandria Summitville Fairmount have been bought and will be improved. Schott has sold all holdings. About 15000 is to be spent rebuilding the plant and supplying power to Hunter and Smithville quarry districts.
Richmond-Martha Uphans, two years old, died from the medicine her mother was taking. While the mother was sick, the child found the bottle and drank a considerable amount of the contents, causing the fatal outcome.
Bloomingdale physician and longtime Friends church minister John H. Newlin of Marshall dies at home at age 75. He headed paraslysis work and led Bloomingdale academy as a longtime trustee and former board president until health declined. He is survived by two daughters.
About two hundred Purdue students disrupted a circus performance, breaking up a side show and then attempting an assault on the main show. A brisk skirmish with circus employees followed, leaving several students badly battered.

Lafayette John Vaughn, 36, indicted for murder in the first degree for stabbing ten year old Elizabeth Stubel with a knife. Grand jury found he was sane at the time of the crime after examining many witnesses.
An old church building in Everton, Connorsville County, used by Myers brothers as a farm material repository, was struck by lightning and burned with its contents. Five thousand pounds of bindery twine was destroyed. The total loss reached $2,000 with only $400 insured.
Neighbors discovered Anna Daugherty, age 70, dead in her bed in Wabash. Her son, a former Big Four train dispatcher, was found in an adjacent room unable to signal help, speechless but aware of his mother's death.

After more than 94 hours the Fargo N D jury could not reach verdict in the Laura Cramer murder case. Cramer is accused of ordering her son to kill her husband Fred Cramer on February 14 at Page North Dakota. This is the longest time a jury has stayed out in the case with two prior disagreements.

At Reidsville Georgia a lynching left one white man and four colored people dead and seven injured after a mob attacked the home of Sam Padgett while seeking a colored suspect who allegedly attacked Mrs Laura Moore. The mob seized prisoners and fired on officers and onlookers, killing Padgett and his ten year old daughter and wounding several others before taking prisoners.
A deliberate train wreck on Southern Pacific Coast Line Limited near West Glendale left one dead and 22 injured, four of them dying. Seven cars plunged from a trestle to a gulch as a wire-driven sabotage tactic caused rails to spread apart, with a $10,000 reward posted for those responsible.
