The body found in Jack oak underbrush southwest of Westville is identified as Anthony Earl of Sheldon Illinois. He left home November 13 promising not to be seen again. Patrolman Edward Haller Captain A A Kent Frank O Kimball and a surf man from the life saving station arrested two men John Laborn and L W Hulburt at Kimball nets after a night watch spotted activity. 60 pounds of herring and 10 pounds of lake bass found aboard their boat. Police plan arraignment in Laporte circuit court.
Benjamin Vancleaf Fogle a longtime Laporte County resident born near Dayton Ohio on March 17 1820 died Wednesday from age related infirmities. He moved to Indiana in 1834 with an ox team and worked as a farmer until 1888 later living in Laporte. He married Parnelia Gray in 1842 and Juara A Cherry in 1870s. six children were born seven survived. Funeral held at his home with Rev. George E Hicks.
Andrew J. Doolittle, 72, died Friday at his rural home three miles north of Wanatah. Funeral services were held Sunday at his home conducted by Rev. S. E. B. Smith of Union Mills with burial in Westville cemetery.
Fred Dabbert died at his late home in Michigan City Saturday afternoon from a cerebral hemorrhage and paralysis. He was seventy two. The funeral was held from St. John's church yesterday.
Rain delayed morning ceremonies as Hon. H B Futhill gave a practical veterans tribute at the church. G A R members and Misses in white laid flowers on graves while W R C held a memorial service at Cattron hall followed by recitations and music. Crowds returned in the afternoon as skies cleared.
