Falls From Train Fatal for Wellsboro Brakeman

Robert Cooken of Wellsboro died in South Chicago hospital from injuries after falling from the top of a Baltimore and Ohio train while switching in the yards. The engineer started the train suddenly causing Cooken to lose his balance and fall between cars. He struck his head and the wheels passed over both legs, severing them. He was 40, leaving a wife and two children.

Circuit Court concluded after ten days of trial in which Charles E Clawson defeated Estella Ice over a 160 acre Henry county farm sold by the late Mrs Clawson to David Provence for 3500. Provence paid 1500 cash and issued mortgage notes for the balance then assigned to Estella Ice before Mrs Clawson’s death. Ice appointed administratrix and Clawson heir seeks inventory of notes as estate assets. Jury ruled Mrs Clawson unsound mind at assignment. Equal division of estate follows.

William A. Ball of Laporte dies suddenly at his Harrison street home from stomach congestion. Born March 2, 1843 in Scipio township, he led an agricultural life then joined Ball, Weaver & Co. He served as Laporte County Agricultural Association president at death and is survived by his wife Hannah J. Lowery and two daughters. Funeral at his home with Rev. G W Switzer. Also notes the death of Miss Ann C Hartwell at 77, a Michigan City teacher, and Miss Harriet Colfax, lighthouse keeper, as well as a diphtheria death of a four-year-old child in Michigan City.

Infant Daughter of Mr and Mrs Shinabarger Interred

The two month old daughter of Mr and Mrs Shinabarger of Carney Michigan died from a birth blood disorder. She was interred in the local cemetery yesterday after death occurred Saturday January 21. The family earlier lost a son four years ago who was killed by a train. The parents accompanied the remains and returned home this afternoon.

Mrs. Fredericka Feallock died at her home in Michigan City on Wednesday from heart disease. She was born in Germany 57 years ago and is survived by four daughters, two sons, four brothers, and one sister. Albert Peters, living northeast of town, is one of her brothers.
