Despondent man shoots self at Wabash depot on Christmas morning
A young tool maker named Ed Bertrand, later identified as E T Rose, attempted suicide at the Wabash depot. He fired a pistol at his forehead but survived with a three inch scalp wound. Miss Alice Clayton, acting as clerk, alerted staff and aided during the incident. He was taken to Holy Family hospital in Laporte and was reported improving after the attack.
