Trego County Fair Proceeds Despite Rainy Start

Rain and mud delay opening but the Trego County Fair continues through next Saturday with strong exhibits in vegetables domestic arts and science. Mc Clellan show company provides amusements while local sheriffs arrest crap shooters and chase offenders amid a busy start to the school year with 180 pupils enrolled and a Mazda demonstration set for September 10 at the M E church basement.

Trego County High School Opens with Strong Enrollment

At 8:30 Monday morning 120 students enrolled at Trejo County High School to greet new teachers and begin a year of work. Enrollment breaks down as 20 seniors 23 juniors 36 sophomores and 46 freshmen with more to enroll next week. The reception was well attended and the first day saw the regular schedule 8:30 to 1:30. After classes students may visit the fair in the afternoon and everyone expresses optimism for a successful year.

Back to School Year Draws Many Off to Higher Learning

The September school season empties the town as nineteen seniors from the 1920 TCHS class pursue college and professional studies. Among names listed are Floyd McNair Paul Hancock Leonard Gibson Myron Niesley George Niesley Bram Hixson Lee Hinshaw Judd Benson Helen Galloway Beth Parsons Eva Walker Julius Harries and others heading to Emporia College KU and other institutions. Also noted are musical studies for Margaret Hardman and various business college enrollments. In other items Garden Theatre announces Paramount Artcraft features including The Tiger Man Miss Crusoe and His Majesty Bunker Bean with Jack Pickford appearing in mid September. The Presbyterian Church notes upcoming Lord's Supper and gatherings, with a reading of Joseph and His Brethren by Mr Hall on Sept. 16 and a 1920 schedule for services and Sunday School.

Recital and Baseball Roundup From Local News

The annual recital by Mrs. Steinberger’s music class drew a large crowd at the court room last Thursday with pupils delivering a varied program showing strong progress. Separately Wak Keeney beat Oakley 9 to 6 in Oakley, tying multiple times before an eleventh inning win. Wak Keeney has twelve wins in sixteen games this year and has defeated Oakley twice in twenty games.
