Wa Keeney High School dominated the Hays City track meet on Saturday April 40 with seven firsts in eleven class A events and the silver loving cup awarded to George Smee for highest individual points. Double Tragedy In Gove County Ball Family Deaths
At the Ball home twelve miles southwest of Quinter in Gove county a mother killed her six week old infant with a .22 rifle and then took her own life. The infant and mother were found by neighbor Maus Anderson as evening fell on Sunday. A coroner's inquest was held but its verdict was not released. The bodies were sent to Mrs Ball’s parents in Gorman Kansas for burial. The article also notes community notices and local business updates.

New Opera House at Collyer Opens with Grand Ball
Last Friday evening April 29th the Collyer opera house opened with a grand ball drawing over 300 attendees. A six piece Ellis orchestra provided music from waltzes to Turkey in the Straw with encore after encore. The 500 seat hall hosted travelers by train and auto from Ellis Wa Keeney and nearby towns, with manager Razals praised for the enterprise. Sealed bids for hydrants for irrigating purposes were invited by May 10th with plans on file in the county clerk’s office.
