A fragmentary column mocks a poet of the Smoky and notes Easter bonnets and the Haster festival. It cites a Topeka State Journal report on a liquor conviction, jokes about Russians taking Pułiszki, and residents recalling a three day snowstorm twenty four years ago as a booster call amid squally March weather and a hoped for a big wheat crop.
The text explains that a check is an unconditional written order from one person to another, signed by the maker, demanding payment of a definite sum on demand or at a fixed future time. It notes a check transfers value and leaves the bank with no option but immediate payment or refusal due to balance.
The April examinations will span April 10 with morning and afternoon sessions in Reading Arithmetic Physiology Geography Kansas History Writing History Spelling Grammar. No exams in Agriculture or Classics. Examinations held at 22 districts with 28 teachers needed. volunteers sought and $3 per day. About 250 pupils from rural and town grades will take the tests.
Youth ages ten to eighteen enroll January to June for Project One acre of kafir milo or feterita. Members select seed plow plant cultivate and harvest one acre in plats totalling 160 sq rods. Plats may be 80 by 2 rods or other rectangular sizes.
Ten to eighteen year olds may enroll in Boys and Girls Clubs with varying enrollment times by club. Members sign a pledge, keep crop records, and report expenses and profits to local leaders, the State or Country Directors, to promote accountability and showcase progress across states.
A notice lists buyers for smooth farm land with improved options and in crop details, with terms including 13 cash down, 1-3 years, and balance in 5 years at 6 percent. The Wa-Keeney Association convention at Collyer church is scheduled for March 30 and 31, 1915, with a full two day agenda of prayer, teaching, and reports.
Seven applicants faced final naturalization as March term concluded. Anton and Leonard Zeigler gained citizenship. Adam B Nimigend and William Sauer were admitted. Jonas Edward Sahlin, a Sweden native, also joined after previous attempts. John Weissbeck’s case was dismissed for being under age. one applicant must return next term to learn more about government. Several jurors served, with a mix of civil and state cases and commentary on jury selection and fitness.
Last Friday evening district 6 held a box supper hindered by bad roads with a fair crowd. Miss Ola Novis and local friends staged a program while George Kirby led the box auction. Esther Nelson received the top bid as boxes sold for over 22, proceeds to buy a new organ for the district.
