Memorial services for Rebekah Odd Fellow lodges held

The annual Rebekah and Odd Fellow memorial service occurred Sunday at 2:30 pm in the courthouse. Rev J E Naylor delivered the sermon after visits to Topeka headquarters and Manhattan rooms. The piece highlights the order’s pledges to aid the sick, bury the dead, and educate orphans, with extensive figures on relief payouts and global lodges including 41 homes for orphans and aged residents.

City considers bonds for new WaKeeney electric plant

City officials publish engineers findings on power options. Black & Veatch studied repairs to the existing oil engine and a proposed steam plant costing around 64 652 50 with 58 775 for boilers and generators, plus 5 877 50 for legal and engineering services. The council presents a bond question to voters to decide on a steam plant around 55 000.

The DeBoer family lost their home to a blaze but expect to rebuild soon. They are staying at the Baptist parsonage and acknowledge the financial hit, yet rejoice that the loss was not total. The issue at stake concerns what is best for Wa Keeney.

Fire destroys WaKeeney home at DeBoer residence

Fire caused the heaviest loss in WaKeeney since the water works began when the DeBoer home on North Oak Street partially burned last Friday morning. Miss Duncan, a roomer, discovered the blaze after sensing alarm from her sick mother. Firefighters and a garden hose battle could not contain the flames, damaging rugs clothing and bedding.

Miss Bessie Larrabee wed Albert O'Toole at the bride’s home on north Franklin street in a small family ceremony at 6:30 p.m. Pink and white decorations and roses adorned the house. A three course dinner followed before the couple departed for Denver and Colorado points to begin their married life.
