Wheat Crop Prospects Improve After Heavy Rain
Big Creek wheat looks strong in the area as nearly two inches of rain fell last Sunday night. Oats and barley may also benefit if hail did not damage them. Memorial and Decoration Day services in Ellis Tuesday drew good crowds, with Prof. House of Ellsworth delivering an apt address. The Farmers Union picnic at Hays on the 24th attracted many, including Senator Guy of Osborn County and German speaker C. W. Bergren. The Sheridan Coliseum cornerstone laying at Fort Hays Normal School impressed the crowd with Ex-Governor Hoch of Marion delivering an hourlong address. About 400 cars parked at the grounds, and no major incidents reported.
