Wa-Keeney calendar notes a big all day picnic at Purinton grove near Castle Rock with participants from four to five counties. Main address by Hon. A. M. Keene of Fort Scott, praising local farmers, and urging town folks to welcome visitors as a sign of genuine esteem and community spirit.
Ralph Harlan writes from a naval ship detailing daily duties of the electrical department, routine night watches, engine room checks, and occasional shore leave. He mentions shipboard life, camaraderie with Haskins and TK, a hospital stay for mumps, and plans to photograph select ship parts for censorship. He recalls a whistle sent home, a Kansas nephew, and the Arkansas coastal scenery surrounding a large gun portrait in the background.
A community gathering features bands, vocal selections, readings by Miss Tessie Tuttle and Mrs. Newcomb, flag drill by twelve young ladies, and music by the Collyer Band. Hon. A. M. Keene of Ft Scott and Governor Arthur Capper may speak. Tug of War pits Missouri Pacific against Union Pacific men for a $10 prize.
