Obituary of John William Mason and local notices

John William Mason born November 18, 1844 in Highland Ohio died June 30 1917 at his son’s home aged 72 7 12 after paralysis. Survived by two sons M W Mason and Chas E Mason. Burial at Wa Keeney cemetery beside wife Susan A Mason. Also obituary of Grace Hixson Powers born February 1 1886 died suddenly of heart trouble in Ogallah and survived by husband Miles Powers two sons, a daughter, siblings and in laws. Funeral at Ogallah Methodist with Rev Alison, burial in Ogallah cemetery. Also short trade notices and ads for farming equipment and mixed country iron.

Wa Keeney Drought Notes And Local Marriage Boom

In June and the first half of 1917 Trego county issued 13 and 35 marriage licenses respectively, with grooms averaging 24 and brides 21. A 42 year old bachelor found a 24 year old bride, while drought talk notes two daily showers for Wa Keeney residents and a rough town crowd of about 5 000 from 553 autos and 47 horse rigs, estimating town population near 900.

Her's A Fighting Family From Hays in Civil War Legacy

Mrs. Mary Jane Sites of Hays traces a long military family lineage from the Civil War to World War I era. Born in 1823 in Ohio and arriving in 1875, she kept the family homestead on the Saline River and endured grief as her eldest son Jeremiah vanished after promising to return for Christmas. Her grandsons and great grandsons now enlist, continuing a family tradition of military service.

Silo campaign tour by Kansas State College extention units

The Kansas State College of Agriculture with Fort Hays Experiment Station launches a silo campaign in Bills county with an Ax auto truck carrying silo models and hoists for pit silos. Three speakers will tour. Meetings in Trego county run June 13 in Ogallah and Wa-Keeney, and July 14 in Bosna and Banner with Collyer.

Wa Keeney Fourth of July Fest Draws Thick Crowd

A large Wa Keeney crowd, estimated at four to five thousand with about 800 autos, enjoyed a Fourth of July celebration featuring a street parade, picture show, and band concerts. Speakers T A McNeal and A A McAuliffe praised patriotism, farmers work, and Wilson, while a double header baseball series yielded Wa Keeney victories. Gate receipts totaled 369 with 51.01 donated to Red Cross. remaining funds split among teams. A Red Cross collection added community support. For Sale tires and tubes advertised on page.
