Hoobler Farm Death After Accident In County

F M Hoob Ger and others on his farm in the county witnessed an accident when a rack toppled and injured Hoobler. He died Tuesday evening from chest and lung injuries leading to pneumonia. Born February 29 1860 in Indiana he was 60 years 10 months 16 days. Unmarried, he is survived by a sister Nora Bishop who was away in Lincoln at the time of the accident. Funeral tomorrow from his home with burial at WaKeeney Cemetery.

Big Rattler Killed Near Wakeeney on December First

Frightened prairie dog town observers F D Wanner and H E Tripp killed a three foot, seven rattles rattlesnake after it disturbed their midday rest on the Daniel Per Shine farm, southeast of Wakeeney. They brought the creature to town as evidence of a rattlesnake sighting on the year’s last day. The winter’s warm spell and crop conditions are noted with forecasts of possible effects on wheat.

Warrant Issued for I. Loewe Attorney in Chicago

The World reports payment on a Wichita bank check drawn by Miss Caroline A Loewe the I W W attorney was refused. A warrant issued Tuesday and searches continue as officers seek her. The check number and the account behavior imply laxity or possible fraud. She is a general attorney for the I W W based in Chicago with possible travels to Maine or California. Later: she has been located in Chicago.

Norcross Stock Co to Play at Garden Theatre Courtyard

Wakveney theatergoers are promised a three night engagement at the Opera House from Thursday January 6 to 8 featuring The Norcross Stock Co led by Card F Norcross. Miss Billie Vampunt stars with new vaudeville acts and special scenery. Opening night offers one free admission for each accompanied by a paying adult. Tickets 25 and 75 cents. doors 7:30, curtain 8:30. Patrons urged to arrive early for seating.

Large Sunday communion service opens the new year at the Presbyterian church. Next Sunday discusses ratifying or amending the Order of Worship. Evening meetings in school house No 16 begin Thursday January 6. A special offering for Near East orphans is planned for January 16. References to Hoover banquet and Denver church relief aid are noted. Frank Walker to supervise Sunday school. Mrs J H Niesley to direct music. Officers and teachers of the Sunday School to be installed next Sunday morning.

Oakley Commercial Club plans new building drive

The Oakley Commercial Club, smaller than Wa Keeney, commits to a building project. About twenty members have pledged to push the plan, aiming to unite local business men. Membership costs include a $10 initiation and $1 monthly dues, with secretary H. P. Jagear handling applications.

Shower honors Mr and Mrs Chester McAtee on December 29 1920

A wedding shower was given at the Berry home for Mr and Mrs Chester McAtee. Guests included Jess MecAtee Mabel Powell and El sie McAtee among others. Grace Berry and Chester McAtee wed Christmas morning at 11 by Probate Judge A S Peacock with Harley Miller and Hazel Berry as witnesses. Music and singing followed as guests departed at midnight wishing the couple happiness.
