Precinct Committeemen Chosen Under New Primary Law

The new primary law provides for a precinct committee man for each party in every precinct. At the recent election several parties and precincts failed to elect, but the following were chosen: Dem Adair Now None Ovallab C.D. Vetter Glencoe Will Clark, H. W. Allman None Money T. Purcell J. Phares Collyer G.M. Thomas R. Tague Banner None None Prantklin O. Young W. Upjohn Willcox None None The new committee will organize with a chairman, secretary and treasurer. The chairman serves ex officio on district and state committees. The county committee selects another member for judicial, senatorial and congressional committees, not on the state committee. The Republican and Democratic state committees meet in Topeka next Tuesday, August 25.

Trego County High Opens Fourth Year in 1908

Trego County High school will open its 4th year on Monday August 31 1908. Students seeking boarding may find a list in the principal’s office. Those wishing to entertain students should report to the principal at once. Indications point to a large enrollment. J H W Niestey Principal.

Mason on Bryan in a Nebraska joke from Emporia memory

Walter Mason recalls meeting William Jennings Bryan in Lincoln years ago. Bryan toiled with a hand auger while joking about old times and gumbo soil, asking for a dull tool sent to Gillette for sharpening as the hired man watched with a tearful eye.

August 1908 Trego County canvass of primary election

The Trego county commissioners met August 7 1908 to canvass the August 4 primary returns. W F King as chairman G W Lynn and James Walsh with County Clerk Laraeee presided at 10 am. The board declared the highest vote receivers nominated and instructed issue of nomination certificates.

Trego County Tax Levy Proceedings 1908 Adjourned Session

Commissioners met at the county clerk's office to levy taxes for 1905 and 1908. Rates include county general 19-10 mills and township and district levies. Wa Keepey and Franklin not yet reporting state tax. adjourned to Aug 8 1908 with Wa-Keeney and other townships listed for general and road amounts.
