Youngest Union Soldier Recalls Civil War Service

J R Wheeler attended Decoration Day in Wenatchee as the youngest Union veteran. Enlisted at eleven in the 9th West Virginia Infantry, he served two years, saw combat without wounds, and survived a close brush with danger. His family from Portsmouth Ohio includes grandfather in Indian wars and son in the Spanish American War.

Odd Fellows Lease New Hall in Sprague Building

The local I O O F lodge租ed the Sprague hall for five years, with upper rooms suited for fraternal use including an assembly room and kitchen. The hall will be sub let to other lodges for meetings. Yesterday the band decorated graves in Wenatchee cemetery including Bert Bosworth, organizer of the band, and others.

Teachers at Stevens grade schools held a china shower for Miss Maude Hayden on Wednesday evening. They collected numerous Haviland china donations, served refreshments, and enjoyed a delightful, memorable evening together.
