The Wenatchee Military Band performs the first Open Air concert at the city park on Orondo avenue. The program includes marches overtures waltzes and patriotic tunes. After the concert the band will play in front of the theater before Camille begins.
Quincy prepares for a baseball game against Wenatchee next Sunday at 3 PM at the fair grounds with a good crowd expected. The Wenatchee lineup will be published tomorrow. A shooting during Monte Cristo intermission led to rumors but police suspect the shot was fired in the air for luck by Mike Powers rather than aimed at anyone.
Wednesday night the Modern Woodmen and the Royal Neighbors of Wenatchee entertained friends in Bower's hall with instrumental and vocal music speeches a tableau and a banquet. A large turnout of lodge members and friends enjoyed the festive program and social time. The event was not mentioned in yesterday's World.
Mr and Mrs C G MacGregor of Leavenworth arrive at the home of G B Parks of Hayden Lumber company for a brief visit after selling their Leavenworth residence. They plan to stay a few days and travel on soon.
A man travels to Canada to oversee a large estate he recently inherited after the death of his aunt and uncle who raised him. He plans to take charge of his new possessions upon arrival.
Waterville supporters report a warlike wagon marked BRIDGE arriving to taunt Wenatchee before a much anticipated high school game. Rumor links Ben Spear to the stunt as crowds await afternoon results and tomorrow's daily update. William Edmund of Orondo notes cherries ripening for next week's market.
The first car-load of young ladies departs Portland for a three week tour of the east and Jamestown Exposition. Led by editor Philip S. Bates the party visits Niagara Falls New York Philadelphia Baltimore and other points. A White House reception with President and Mrs Roosevelt marks a highlight.
After a public talk at the fairgrounds, Willard received loud cheers from members of the local high school in attendance marking a lively community event.
Leavenworth and Cashmere women named as contenders for the Jamestown trip. Annie Davis of Leavenworth is listed by name with other candidates Miss Mabel Beezley and Miss Clara Belle Amos from Cashmere and Miss Mayme Treadwell also from Cashmere. Manager Ferguson of Wenatches theater took Willard Dramatic company leads on a city sightseeing trip by car. No accident occurred and no publicity was generated.
The Wenatchee theater night audiences praised Lee Willard's Edmond Dantes in Dumas' Monte Cristo. Miss Roberts as Mercedes also impressed with clear, expressive delivery and refined costuming. The reviewer urged strong towns to support high quality drama and lauded the Willard company.
F. W. Ketchum was sworn in as a special policeman for duty during the field meet. Marshal Ferguson was requested to officiate at the Fair Grounds, while Ketchum keeps the peace on city streets this afternoon.
Actor Lee Willard teased the audience with a curtain speech during Monte Cristo and announced a field meet scheduled today between Wenatchee and the Waterville visitors.
Mrs. J. H. Seaman and Mrs. Ansel R. Griggs held a Five Hundred event at Mrs. Griggs home last night. Fourteen tables produced prizes for guests with Mrs. Geo. R. Fisher and Mrs. Henry M. Treadwell winning the ladies’ top two, while M. O. Tibbits and Carl H. Christensen led the men’s scores. Fifty to sixty guests attended and refreshments followed at midnight.
Mr and Mrs English left Wenatchee on the morning train for Seattle and will be absent for two or three months. English has led the structural steel work on the new bridge across the Columbia River but the project is suspended until the river subsides and he took a short vacation.
The Great Northern announces excursion tickets to eastern terminals of western roads at one fare plus ten dollars for round trip. Tickets valid ninety days from sale, sold during June, July, August and September. Western terminals include Kansas City St. Paul Chicago Omaha and St. Louis.
J B Olinger arrived in Wenatchee from Puyallup this morning and begins his duties as manager of the Wenatchee Valley Fruit Growers Association.
A Hindoo revolutionary in Lahore circulated a wild claim that a plague was a government ploy and 100000 deaths weekly resulted from water poisoning. An accomplice who scattered harmless balls into wells was jailed for 18 months.
Assistant Attorney General Falkner issues guidance to Governor Mead on recommissioning officers. He says several acts do not require recommissioning while others should renew commissions for positions including highway commissioner horticulture oil inspector dairy and state oil inspector forester and fire warden.
Judge Kaufman in North Yakima set fines at 35 dollars and costs for Ahtanum farmers who violated a court restraining order blocking use of the creek waters. He said earlier settlers’ rights must be respected but warned harsher penalties for future violations.
