Washington Senate Rejects Direct U S Senator Election

In Olympia on March 6 the Washington senate voted 27 to 10 against a direct voter method for selecting U S senators. A proposed advisory general election vote and a Cotterill bill for placing party candidates on ballots were discussed. the substitute failed and the motion to consider on merits passed, leading to a nonbinding yet politically significant stance. City finances note $6388.80 merged balance with receipts and disbursements detailed by City Treasurer H. A. Manchester.

Honest Man From Twisp Settles Old 93 Notes in Palouse

Joe Matthews of Twisp traveled to Palouse from his former home and tracked down unpaid notes from 1893. He located the paper, acknowledged the outlawed status, and completed a satisfactory settlement. Matthews was raised with the Petty family on Fourmile and was a familiar figure in the Palouse area years ago.

Washington Fruit Growers Federation Organized in Seattle

A Seattle meeting formed the Federation of Washington Fruit Growers to unite state shipping associations. Delegates E T Balch Harry Shotwell M O Tibbitts, with W H Paulhamus president and Balch vice president. Directors include Geardreau Paulhamus Bowie Harrison Cline Balch Hinman Prior Rose. The group aims to improve market conditions. next month a general manager will be named to manage interests and study crop and market conditions.
