Mystery surrounds death of H M Hammond in Barry Washington
Hammond disappeared after riding to the riverbank above his Barry ranch on a terrace bluff. Indications point to a drowning in the Columbia river after the horse and rider fell about 100 feet into a ravine. Witnesses, including Indians fishing nearby, reported seeing a horse drown and possibly Hammond entangled in harness.
