Dredging the Alluvial Flats near Wellington Macquarie River
The Apex Club sourced a detailed account of Wellington Alluvial Ltd operations on the Macquarie River above Wellington. It covers incorporation in 1916, nine miles of leases, the dredge design with 110 buckets, a 125 horsepower motor, and a 3000000 cubic yard overburden and gold bearing gravel plan. It describes the dredge launch in 1997, the pontoon structure, water pumps, sluicing and centrifuge systems, mercury amalgamation processes, and overburden stripping with a conveyor, belt stacker, and reseeding with lucerne to restore ground over centuries of river deposition.
