WHS Students Receive BWXT Pantex Excellence Awards
The BWXT Pantex banquet honored Wellington High School students for math and science achievements. Clint Wheeler, Paige Parker, Taber McPherson, and Jermaine Cantu each earned grade level subject awards with plaques. Paige Parker won Outstanding Science Student for 10th grade and a $2,500 Ascension Academy scholarship. seniors receive $1,000 toward a chosen college.

Swearingen to receive psychology degree at Southeastern Oklahoma State
J J Swearingen graduates May 11 2002 with a bachelor of arts in psychology and a minor in criminal justice at Southeastern Oklahoma State University. He played on the tennis team, ranked doubles pair, volunteered at Bryan County Youth Service, and joins Psi Chi and Order of the Omega. He plans a master’s in behavioral studies and will serve in the National Guard before training at Fort Carson then a six month peacekeeping deployment to Egypt.

Special Olympics awards honor Cole Browning-Nall at May 3 event
Cole Browning-Nall of the Wheeler County Islanders received the Tony Thompson Memorial Fighting Heart Award, also known as Male Athlete of the Year, at the Area 16 spring games opening ceremonies at the Amarillo Civic Center Coliseum. The Wheeler student, described as a motivator and energetic player, competes in bowling basketball and track and has also just received the Guardian Angel Award from Amigas Para Ninos. He is the son of Jim Bob and Diana Nall with family ties to Shamrock and Wellington.
