May is Motorcycle Safety and Awareness Month
Texas DPS promotes May as Motorcycle Safety and Awareness Month urging riders to take certified courses. More than 650,000 Texans are licensed to ride, with 30,000 new licenses in 2001. The Motorcycle Safety Unit runs 45 locations plus mobile units. 17,110 Texans completed courses last year, boosting safety and potential insurance discounts. Helmets are encouraged though not required for all riders. exemptions apply to those over 21 who complete a safety course or have health insurance covering at least $10,000. Bonnie and Clyde Car Show and Cruise Night
The first Bonnie and Clyde Car Show and Cruise Night takes place Saturday May 18 at the Wellington Activity Center from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Entry is 10 dollars with a free cruise night, 5 dollars for burn outs, plus a 5 dollar poker run. The first 100 entrants get dash plaques and judges from Vernon will rate street rod late model classic muscle antique and motorcycle classes.

Courthouse Public Shelter Access Limited to South Door
Tank Forrester states the south door of the courthouse will remain open during bad weather, with basement shelter entry just inside that door. As storms approach, people flow through all doors, but officials urge using only the south entrance to reach the shelter to improve organization and safety.
