Fever Tick Quarantine Expanded in Starr County Texas

The fever tick quarantine zone in Starr County, Texas, has grown by about 24,000 acres after ticks were found on four premises outside the existing area. Inspectors are tracing 94 cattle sold March 28 2008 and notifying nine initial buyers. cattle are quarantined, inspected, and treated to curb tick spread. Three additional livestock markets face cleaning and disinfection as federal and state health authorities investigate movement of cattle over the past year.
