Jose Ayala Nunez the Honduras native facing two burglary counts with intent to commit sexual assault one aggravated sexual assault and two fraudulent document charges has bonds totaling 610000 set by Collingsworth County Justice of the Peace Jo Rita Howard. He was arrested April 27 in Wellington and held at the county jail as authorities seek more victims and details from three incidents reported March 7 April 17 and April 25.
Collingsworth County citizens aided the sheriff department with donations and fundraisers that funded five body armor sets and new radar and audio video equipment for patrol cars. Sheriff Joe Stewart noted the gear will improve traffic stop documentation and suspect actions while night jackets donated by Owens Supply will aid nighttime visibility. He praised community support and affirmed the department is actively using the equipment.
Collingsworth County Chamber of Commerce launches the fourth annual citywide garage sale with Catrall Daves leading. About 50 sales are hoped, with a $10 listing fee for name and address on the map. Local booths may sell foods and crafts, with proceeds aiding chamber projects.
The Quail Wind Power Project backed by Florida Power and Light covers Collingsworth County from north of Wellington to Sumnerwood with Wheeler County input. A public meeting is set for May 13 at 1 p.m. at the Burn Handley Community Building hosted by Wellington Economic Development Corporation. Attendees include Rod Weisel and Keith Davis with Keith Martin discussing CRP land and wind farm implications.
