Red River origins and history across Texas and beyond
The Red River forms Texas Panhandle boundaries and drains toward the Mississippi. It rises in the eastern Colorado Rockies, flows through Palo Duro Canyon and Kidress County, collecting Tule Creek and Washita waters before entering Louisiana. Historical notes cover Coronado, Marcy’s 1852 expedition, the Great Raft removal by the Corps of Engineers, and navigation toward Natchez, Mississippi.
