Community club seeks facelift for Burn Handley Building
Civic clubs and local groups raise funds to restore the Burn Handley Community Building in Ellington, a WPA era landmark hosting dances and meetings since 1942. The city will cover half of a $12 000 project. raffled Ranger game tickets and donations support the remainder.

WISD Extends Principals and Athletic Director Contracts
The WISD Board extended contracts for Principals Danny Chisum and Diane O'Rear and Athletic Director Kurt Ashmore by one year through June 31, 2003. PPGA elects 2001 directors at annual meeting
Sixty eight peanut growers and guests attended the Panhandle Peanut Growers Association annual meeting on Monday February 26 in Burn Handley Community Building. Mary Webb of the Texas Peanut Producers Board outlined research with Peanut Institute and American Heart Association totaling over one million dollars in two years. Proposals for the 2002 farm bill from regional groups included changes to market loan base around 500 dollars per ton and 18 cents per pound with transition payments and quota considerations.
