Popwells celebrate 50th wedding anniversary in Wellington
Leo and Mariar Popwell were honored with a surprise dinner on June 3, 2000 at the home of Don and Beatrice Allred. Married June 18, 1950 in Amarillo, they farmed locally and now run a custom harvest business with family. Their four children, eight grandchildren, and two great grandchildren attended the event.

New Lions officers sworn in at Wellington meeting
The Wellington Lions Club met June 19, 2000, at the Burn Handley Community Center. PDG James Cunningham installed the 2000 01 officers. Dan Howard became president with Gary Starkey as VP and Doris Nash as secretary. Sharon Starkey was elected a director, replacing Danny Mendoza who is moving. Latasha Outley to attend Texas Lions Camp July 9 15, with cards and parcels addressed to Kerrville camp. Public programs include Lighthouse for the Blind broom sale with tentative Sept 15 or 22 dates.

VFW Post Hosts Large Monthly Social Gathering
A large group attended the VFW Post Hottie monthly social hosted by Jill Sikes Wilta Gibbs Fred and Ruby Squyres J W and Ida Hartman and others. The event featured Father’s Day themed decorations, a varied food table, and a brisket centerpiece. Attendees signed up for the 55 Alive defensive driving class on July 10 and 11, with Anne Long named as instructor.

Loreen Hill marked her 80th birthday with a June 18 family dinner at the home of Sharon and Gerald Macalik in Wellington. J C Clement Family Reunion In Amarillo
J C Clement family members gathered in Amarillo on June 24 and 25 2000 at the Senior Citizens Building for a reunion. Members studied family history, viewed photos, and posed for pictures. Peggy Davis was elected president and Jessie Solomon remains secretary and treasurer. A memorial donation honored Rev and Mrs J C Clement to Wellington and Plymouth Cemeteries. The Elmer Clement lineage was honored with Stansell Clement sharing a family history. Attendees included Clement relatives from several states.
