Elbert R. Keesee an early county settler died at his Shin nery Community home Friday evening June 28 after a heart attack at 4 PM Funeral services were held Saturday at Independence Oklahoma Church of Christ pastor A O Tweedy led the rites Keesee born December 16 1881 in Taney County Missouri was 57 years 7 months and 8 days old at death He moved to the county in 1900 and married Mallisse Crawford in 1909 He was a Church of Christ member and his friends praised his character and ideals

License Plate Colors Chosen for 1940 Vehicles
The State Highway Commission approved colors for the 1940 Texas license plates. Passenger cars will be purple on white, commercial vehicles orange on black, farm trucks black on yellow, and tractors trailers dealers motor buses motorcycles and side cars gold on blue. Plates will be manufactured by the Texas Prison System and go on sale by county tax collectors March 1, 1940.
