Surrounded inside a stockade fort by Blackfoot attackers, Beaver uses a ruse to appear ready for a sortie. He lures courage back in the others, and the retreat ends with a bold rear guard effort that saves the group. Captain Randolph Marcy later praised Black Beaver for his bravery.

4-H Scholarships Top $1 Million For First Time
The Texas 4-H Opportunity Scholarship Program will award 1,018,900 in scholarships to 155 Texas 4-H members, the largest amount for any state. Recipients were selected from 285 applicants after a June 13 roundup at Texas A&M University. Scholarships range 500 to 15,000 funded by 34 donors led by Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo and San Antonio Livestock Show.
