1967 Cotton Program Details Released
The 1967 program mirrors 1966 with voluntary participation and a two thirds referendum for quotas. Cooperators must divert at least 12.6 percent of their allotment to conserving uses to receive price support loans and payments plus diversion payments. The loan rate uses the national average for middling 1 inch cotton, about 20.25 cents per pound, with a minimum sale price near 22 cents and expected market price around 22.5 cents. Carrying charges will be similar to this year, and an added price-support payment of 11.53 cents per pound applies atop the loan, with the world price level guiding the overall policy.

On the first signup day of the 1967 Cropland Adjustment program, 46 farmers filed for agreements totaling 90,343 dollars and 15 cents, seeking to divert about 7,743 acres of cropland. John Carson, chairman of the Agriculture Stabilization and Conservation County Committee, announced the county’s initial allocation of 28,658 dollars for the program geared to long term conservation using excess crop acreages.
