November Weather Readings Bring Snow and Moisture

Cold temperatures dominated near month end as readings show a surge of snowfall and more than a half inch of moisture.

Santa Letters Deadline for Wellington Leader Edition

To ensure all receive Santa responses the Wellington Leader will accept Letters to Santa until Friday. Students from area schools have largely submitted letters but homeschooled or absent pupils may still submit. Submit by Friday to guarantee inclusion in the Christmas edition on Thursday, December 21.

Potpourri Photo Exhibit at Collingsworth County Museum

Priscilla Green presents Potpourri a photographic exhibit at the Art Center of Collingsworth County Museum located at 824 East Ave. Green pursued photography over two years, starting with a 35 mm camera and later a digital one. Display hours are 1 to 5 pm weekdays with after hours view possible by appointment and a suggested viewing tonight after the courthouse lighting ceremony.

Santa Arrives Tonight in Wellington Annual Christmas Lights

The Collingsworth County Courthouse Square hosts the 2006 Wellington Christmas lighting at 6 p.m. with the Wellington High School Band and Community Choir performing before Santa arrives for photos at the Museum for 5 dollars. Open houses follow at the Wellington Opportunity Center with a ribbon cutting at 5:45 p.m. and free tastings from local cooks. Open houses also feature G and designs Lil ie Annes and Nancys Place around the square.

Wellington Holiday Schedule With Santa Arrivals

At 5:45 p.m the Wellington Opportunity Center hosts activities followed by a 6 p.m. lighting of the square on the Wellington Courthouse Square where Santa arrives. The Wellington High School Band and Community Choir perform, Santa visits the Collingsworth County Museum at 6:30 p.m. for photos with Traci Judd handling photo duties. Open houses by the center and nearby businesses occur after the ceremony.

Snowy arctic blast hits Collingsworth County roads

Last Thursday Collingsworth County felt snow and ice as arctic air moved through the Panhandle. In Wellington drivers and utility workers faced blustery conditions. Colder temperatures are expected again this weekend but without more snow.

Wellington Awards Bid for $275,000 Lift Station Project

Wellington city council awarded Mar ton Irrigation the lift station project at Ellison Park, funded by a grant, to upgrade the wastewater system. Dana Bell was added to the Wellington Economic Development Corporation board, and City Manager Jon Sessions briefed a district judge about demolishing unsafe houses. The city joined Abilene in contesting an AEP Energy rate increase.

Samnorwood Eagles Fall Short in Six Man Playoff

Samnorwood traveled to Bushland to face Whitharral in a Texas Division II Six-Man Quarterfinal, leading 36-20 at halftime before a 35-point rally by Whitharral yielded a 61-42 defeat on a cold Saturday night in the Texas Panhandle. Jake Baker scored early for Whitharral, driving an 8-0 lead, as Nathan Black sher tied it with a two-yard TD run before Whitharral added another score.
