Wesley McKnight Leads Texas to Oil Bowl Triumph

Wesley McKnight powered the Texas All-Stars to a 24-7 Oil Bowl victory over Oklahoma before 9,000 at Wichita Falls Memorial Stadium. He totaled 100 yards, with 68 rushing on eight attempts and 32 receiving, while Brian Smith of Flower Mound Marcus and Edwin Feaster of Wichita Falls Hirschi were named MVP and defensive standout respectively. The Texas win snapped Oklahoma’s two-game streak and expanded the series lead to 34-12-1.

Second Annual Peanut Festival Pageant Opens Saturday

The Collingsworth Chamber of Commerce hosts the 2nd annual Festival Queen Contest on August 15 at 7 p.m. in Wellington High School auditorium. Entrants from five counties, rehearsals at 1 p.m., brunch at Doris Nash's home, and interviews by judges mark a full day before the evening show. Tickets are $2 at the door.

Blood Drive Donors Help Collingsworth General Hospital

Fifty pints of blood were donated Monday by 53 volunteers through Red River Region Blood Services of the American Red Cross. The effort ensures free blood supply for residents within the service area, with processing charges applying. Special thanks were given to John Nash for his three gallons donated, and many locals were recognized for their support.

Donley County insect scouting workshop set for August 21

Donley County Extension Crops Committee hosts an insect scouting workshop for cotton producers in Collingsworth and Donley Counties. Entomologists Emory Boring and Carl Patrick assist. 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Paymaster Gin in Lelia Lake. Contact Dale Dunlap by August 19. bring five representative cotton plants. Private applicators earn two CEUs.

August festival and rodeo events draw crowds to Wellington

Collingsworth County plans a August festival with the Wellington Rodeo Association hosting the parade and rodeo events at VFW Arena starting Friday night. The 2nd Annual Festival Queen Contest is set for Saturday at Wellington High School Auditorium with contestants from five counties. Saturday also features art exhibits, antique quilt show, and live music at the Museum. Tickets for the queen contest are $2 at the door.

Kimi Howard Represents Wellington High in Oil Bowl Queen Pageant

Kimberlee Kimi Howard of Wellington High School competed as one of 23 contestants in the 1992 Oil Bowl Classic in Wichita Falls Texas Oklahoma all star game where Texas beat Oklahoma 24 to 7. She attended registration luncheon interviews parade and dinner with Marine Corps escorts and left with many new friends.
