Welfare plan in Texas ties aid to child immunization
President Clinton announced federal approval of a six year plan enabling Texas and three other states to withhold $25 per child per month from families on Aid to Families With Dependent Children for non immunized preschoolers. Parents must show immunization records at semiannual interviews, with a waiver if affordable clinics are unavailable. Texas will educate on immunizations and offer free or low cost shots through the Health Department.
