A Lord Kitchener dispatch from Pretoria reports a November 3 recon patrol of yeomanry near Brakaprult, 140 miles east of Pretoria, surrounded by 300 Boers with six killed and 16 wounded. Troopers captured were later released. Near Heilbron the Byng column faced 400 Boers on November 14, two hours of fighting ended with eight Boers killed. Lieutenant Hughes and one trooper were killed. three officers and nine men wounded.
