A foreign settlement in the valley, housing forty to sixty families, is described as anarchistic and hostile to guardsmen. Military vigilance remains high as locals expect the strike to end soon. A main plan called for voting on the separate World's Fair bill by December with only three amendments allowed, and the caucus adjourned amid tensions and World’s Fair protests. Also August 1 figures show July public debt at 967,378,935 in interest and non interest bearing debt, total debt 1,587,054,738, cash in Treasury 783,979,263 and a cash balance of 127,060,286.

Reports from St. Louis say the 9 PM Big Four limited eastbound passenger train collided with a freight at Edwardsville Til. The engineer and fireman perished and many passengers were injured, some fatally.

Ocean to Los Angeles service will expand, the intermediate mail handling will increase, and the Ogden to here fast mail will be improved with efforts to secure on time arrival. Further changes depend on a coast inspection.
Vintage medical ad touts a salve for piles claiming immediate pain relief and permanent cure. Describes East West use, product from a Pacific Coast pharmacist, price one dollar. Also notes mail order suppositories and distributors in Chicago and Pinniger store availability.

Excursion from Reno to the Lake Tahoe summer resort is arranged by Carnelian Springs manager Quick. The round trip includes fare hotel lodging and a steamer trip around the lake for 14 dollars. A large party is expected with many firms already contacted.
While attempting to break a handle from an old sledge a piece of steel struck A Nadon in the arm severing a radial vein. Blood spurted from the wound and he grew weak before Dr Phillips treated him. The injury is not serious but will keep him from work for several days.
Theodore Winters, president of the State Agricultural Society, donates twelve hundred chairs to be laced in the grandstand at the fair grounds. The old wooden benches will be removed and visitors may thank his generosity for added comfort.
Park department funds exhausted a month ago forcing a donation of 100 dollars by the Park Commissioner to cover contracted bills. Yesterday at the Commissioner's request another 100 was given by Mr Newlands to permit necessary work. A draft has been made in the Carson Mint. Two of the lady adventers have been dispensed with, including Josie Barnes of Rene, whom Uyenmal regrets.
