School Entertainment at Speaker District No. 1

One of the most successful school exhibitions in Speaker District No 1 drew about 300 scholars parents and neighbors to raise funds for a district bell. Teacher Chas G Putney directed a three hour program of magic instrumental music recitations dialogues drills and tableaux with net proceeds of 25.30 ending with broad satisfaction.

Letter from Arkansas describes Hot Springs visit and cure hopes

A missive from Hot Springs Arkansas dated February 17 1802 reports a traveler named Jasre Iitery writing to a friend about long travel from Yale. He details baths nine taken with some improvement and notes the town’s size climate and health facilities including many bath houses and local residents. He mentions his brother Wi is worsened but improving and plans to stay until May if cure continues.

D. Joxes of Yale advertises lumber lath and shin for sale with three car-loads weekly and urges builders to call before chasing supplies. Shin shingles priced from 80 cents per thousand and the yard claims to be the cheapest in town.
