State price schedule for army supplies urged by NC board
The North Carolina Commissioners of Appraisement publish a detailed price schedule for army purchases to guide purchasing agents. They note elevated prices due to government orders and urge farmers to supply hay, grain, wool, and other goods. The document includes prices for apples, hay, corn, wheat, cotton, meats, lard, leather, flour, salts, iron, shoes, and many other items, plus instructions to avoid impressing supplies for private consumption. They propose universal impressment and allow producers a quarter of their crop to be sold at market to fund necessary plantation supplies. The next board meeting is set for April in Raleigh, with appeals needing justification.
