James R. Wyatt of Cuba Fulton county, jailed for grand larceny, committed suicide and confessed to murdering D B Gillham of Alton six years earlier. Gillham, ex-state senator and state board of agriculture member, woke to burglars, was shot, and died. Wyatt’s statements implicate Tom Brown and George Sterchey. Brown remains jailed at Chester. Sterchey died. Brown’s sentence stands.
In Derrorr Michigan on October 19 William J Bryan spoke briefly to Newsboys Home attendees despite his Sunday speech ban. He said the visit aimed to support boys, urging them to seek better lives, capitalize on open opportunities, and practice kindness, patriotism, and service to others.
