McClellan plans immediate Washington duties and urges bipartisan city progress.
Estimates from 67 Pennsylvania counties put Mathues ahead for state treasurer by 217,784 in a quiet vote with Republicans winning 49 counties and Democrats 18. Snyder and other judges see similar large pluralities amid Democratic division by the independents. Baltimore results lean toward Warfield as governor with Democrats likely to control the legislature. Omaha figures favor Barnes as fusion support grows, Lincoln and Lancaster show slight fusion gains. Des Moines returns suggest Gov. Cumming’s re‑election by about 60,000.
Reported returns indicate little change from two years ago with the House at 82 Republicans and 18 Democrats and the Senate 40 Republicans and 10 Democrats. Democrats may gain two or three seats in the House as results solidify.
Columbus report says Republicans carried rural Ohio for governor with Byron T. Herrick defeating Mayor Tom L. Johnson by well over 100,000. The GOP also secured a joint ballot plurality of over 100 for reelecting Senator Hanna, tripling the previous record. Foraker had a 35 vote joint-ballot majority two years ago, while Hanna’s current margin far exceeds that.
Boston report shows Gov. John L. Bates re-elected as governor by a similar plurality to last year with 199,393 votes to Democrat Gaston’s 168,544. Republicans also carry the state ticket and are likely to hold a two to one edge in the 1903 legislature. Full returns from all towns and cities confirm Bates’s margin.
At midnight Tuesday returns show Gov Garvin reelected by a reduced plurality in Rhode Island. The close vote suggests the result may stay in doubt until all districts report. The Republican State Central Committee said later returns could overturn Garvin’s lead over Col Colt.
Louisville reports a heavy voter turnout and numerous irregularities as Governor Beckham Democrat appears headed to a wide victory over Col. Morris B. Belknap Republican. Returns from 38 counties show Beckham 54,084 to Belknap 36,710.
Denver reports show John Campbell as the likely winner for Colorado supreme court, with nearly full returns and a 5,000 to 7,000 plurality claimed by the Republican state committee over rival Wilson. No other offices filled in this election.
In New Jersey on election day Republicans captured four of six state senate seats and enough assembly seats to control both houses. Union County backed the Democratic slate, defeating United States Senator Keane. In San Francisco mayoral balloting Schmitz led Union Labor, with Cocker and Lane trailing. Sacramento elected Hassett mayor over Elkus by about 600 to 650 votes.
Salt Lake City returns indicate Morris Democrat leads Knix Republican by about 1500 votes. Democrats also win 13 of 15 city council seats, eight of which go to Mormons, reflecting strong party and religious influence in local government.
President Mitchell ordered a strike at 10 am in the Colorado district affecting 18,000 men at the Colorado Fuel & Iron Co and Victor Fuel Co. The first general strike in No. 15, covering Colorado Utah New Mexico and southern Wyoming, starts next Monday and is expected to be fiercely contested.
Floyd Lamb, hunted after killing his wife and wounding his mother-in-law in Florence township, Centreville, Michigan, on Saturday, surrendered in a swamp with bloodhounds and a citizen posse. He immediately shot himself, declaring he preferred death to prison as threats of lynching loomed.
In Carthage Illinois evangelist William Sunday formerly a baseball player wrapped up revival meetings here with 530 converts joining local churches. He received a free will offering of 2100 dollars Tuesday, raised across several Carthage churches.
At Brazos river on the Brazos and Trinity River railroad near Chapel Hill a span bridge collapsed during construction. Fifty laborers worked on the site. a derailed car toppled the structure causing a train to crash through. Twelve are dead and many more wounded.

In Medora Illinois on November 2 Miss Lela Lawson twenty was roasting leaves in Carrollton Greene county when her dress caught fire. Carpenter Yarob McAvoy rushed to smother the blaze using his coat pulling the burning fabric from her back. Her injuries were described as serious with profuse burns to the flesh.
Joliet Illinois November 2 President Charles N Bacon and Cashier Andrew H Butler of the defunct Lockport bank were arrested on warrants accusing embezzlement. Officers allegedly took deposits while knowing the bank was insolvent. Both posted bonds. Bacon a former state senator and four time Lockport mayor. Hearing set for tomorrow. Paducah Kentucky November 2 a body believed to be Dan Keeney a Danville Tennessee raftsman was found in the Tennessee river three miles above here. He was last seen aboard the Clyde and suspected drowned with a raft of logs valued at 1400 dollars. Papers on the body support Keeney identity.
