A Pair of Cousins and a Courageous Fire Rescue
A narrator recalls childhood on a Russian estate during a thunderstorm when a lightning strike ignites a hut. He helps rescue a dying man, a woman, and a baby, while a boy is saved from the blaze. Ten years later he becomes a czar guard and survives a perilous Turko-Russian battle, saved by the same boy who later covers him during an attack. The tale ends with a note on silver production worldwide.
