The state auditor reports July 24 opening figures for 190 banks, 11 new banks since May 12. Charles Woolard aged 25 died while digging a well east of Norris City when he was overcome by foul air. He did not survive despite efforts to rescue him. He leaves a widow and a child.
The third annual reunion of the Society of the Philippines began in Council Bluffs Iowa with nearly two thousand delegates and veterans. Gen Irving Hale presided at Arcanum hall as officers conducted routine business, with a reception at Lake Manawa that night. A telegram from President Roosevelt expressed regret at being unable to attend while praising the band of veterans. Delegations from St Paul and St Louis arrived as the groups discuss future reunions for 1903 and 1904.

Chief Francis ONeill of Chicago spoke on improving police efficiency. Joliet was chosen for the 1903 convention in August.
