In Chicago at the Douglas hotel the body of Mrs. Mary Kelly was found in her room with two gas jets turned on, indicating self-inflicted death. In Quincy, 40 year old Nicholas Roewer collapsed in an alley the other night. The remains were not identified for several hours. Heart disease cited as a contributing factor.
Mrs. Mary Rude Maginn loses claim to substantial property left by her first husband due to her marriage to Walter Hemsley of Chicago. The legal action ends her title to the estate.
Mrs Sophia Hoeh aged 81 died at her home in Nokomis Macoupin county. She was buried in the Prairie town cemetery near Bunker Hill.

A Helena Montana dispatch reports Samuel Karns and Alice Misner, employees of Cascade county sheepman John Fravier, were burned to death Tuesday night while asleep in their Six Mile creek cabin near Salt Lake City Utah.
Cuban delegates visiting Washington for talks on their island's constitution met with President McKinley at the White House and with Secretary Root at the War Department. The day included a state dinner and a lengthy conference in Root's office, with secrecy surrounding the proceedings. The delegates emphasized close U S ties and gratitude for emancipation from Spain. the president pledged candid consideration of Cuba’s welfare.
